At Victory Christian Academy (VCA), we believe technology is a powerful tool that can enhance learning, foster creativity, and connect students to the world around them. However, we also recognize the importance of responsible technology use and creating a safe online environment. Here's how we integrate technology into a Christ-centered learning experience for our students:
Information Technology @ VCA
Experienced IT Leadership:
Laurance Draves, IT Director
VCA is committed to providing a robust and secure technology infrastructure. Our IT Director, with over 35 years of experience in networking, security, and business, ensures our technology supports both academic excellence and the school's mission. His expertise creates a foundation for “equipping the next generation of disciples,” where technology empowers learning and growth aligned with our Christian values.
Traci Kersker, Technology Coach
Our Technology Coach is passionate about helping teachers and students leverage the full potential of technology in the classroom. She provides one-on-one support to teachers, equips them with the latest tools, and assists students with troubleshooting and Chromebook usage.
1:1 Chromebook Program:
VCA provides a 1:1 Chromebook program to ensure each student has access to a Chromebook for the school year. Unless grandfathered under an older policy, families are required to lease a Chromebook for each student. Our IT team provides ongoing support for these devices, ensuring students have the resources they need to excel. Parents play a vital role in this program by reviewing the Chromebook Agreement with their student and signing the Agreement before school begins.
Partnering with Parents: Safeguarding the Learning Environment
We prioritize providing a safe and secure online environment for our students. This includes:
Robust Network Security: We implement a range of network security measures to protect student data and ensure a safe online experience.
Content Filtering: Appropriate content filters are in place to restrict access to inappropriate materials.
Google's Minor Protection Policies: We enforce Google's Minor Protection Policies to further safeguard our students online.
GoGuardian: This comprehensive solution provides both Teacher Assist and Student Monitoring features. Teachers can offer real-time support while promoting responsible online behavior.
GoGuardian Parent App: We believe in partnering with parents to ensure online safety beyond the classroom. The GoGuardian Parent App allows parents to monitor their child's Chromebook usage and manage it outside of school hours.
High School: TrekAI and Responsible AI Use
Recognizing the growing importance of AI tools, VCA High School students will have access to TrekAI, a 24/7 AI Tutor/Study Buddy. This program will introduce students to these tools and promote responsible AI usage, allowing them to benefit from technology while remaining grounded in a Christian worldview.
